Turn Back the Hands of Time with a Neck Lift

Turn Back the Hands of Time with a Neck Lift

As you age, you can expect your face to change, with wrinkles, fine lines, drooping skin, and dark spots impacting your appearance. It’s not just your face that changes; your neck and jawline also go through similar changes that reveal your age.

If you don’t like how your neck looks in the mirror, board-certified plastic surgeon Joseph Fodero, MD, PA, can make it look tighter and younger with neck lift surgery at Northeastern Plastic Surgery in Florham Park, New Jersey. Keep reading to learn how a neck lift can turn back the clock.

What is a neck lift?

During aging, your neck starts to undergo changes that might make you appear older and detract from your appearance. Aging-related changes to the neck that can occur include:

In some adults, the neck looks saggier and more wrinkled than their face, adding years to their appearance. This can come from a combination of genetics, stress, and lifestyle factors.

A neck lift procedure reverses many signs of aging in your neck and jaw areas. After getting a neck lift procedure, you can expect your neck to look tighter, more contoured, and with a trimmer and more defined jawline.

Who can get a neck lift?

A neck lift might be right for you if you have signs of sagging in your neck and jawline that can’t effectively be treated nonsurgically. It is an especially effective procedure if some of your main signs of aging are in the neck rather than the face.

This can also be an ideal surgery if you’d like to change your appearance but aren’t ready for a facelift yet, either because your upper face looks younger than your neck or you’d prefer a more targeted procedure.

If those goals or needs sound like you, you can usually get a necklift if you’re a healthy adult fit to undergo surgery. The surgery works best if you still have some elasticity in your skin and a strong bone structure.

The neck lift procedure

A neck lift is a surgical procedure usually performed under intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia. A typical surgery lasts 2-3 hours, and you can immediately go home to start your recovery.

To begin, Dr. Fodero makes small incisions that extend from the front of the earlobe to the lower scalp, discreetly placed behind your ear. He sometimes makes another small incision under your chin.

Next, Dr. Fodero tightens your neck muscles. He then removes any extra fat and skin in your neck and jaw.

The surgery ends with Dr. Fodero closing your incisions with stitches. After surgery, you can expect initial recovery to last 10-14 days.

You can expect your neck and surrounding areas to appear swollen and bruised for the first week. Your skin may feel tingly or tight.

You can typically expect to return to work in 10 days to two weeks. After a few weeks, you can usually start to exercise and resume a more active lifestyle.

By following Dr. Fodero’s aftercare instructions, you can expect a full, safe recovery and to get great results from the procedure.
