Tips to Prepare for Plastic Surgery
Once you’ve decided to receive plastic surgery, you might be nervous about the recovery post-op. It helps to be prepared before the surgery to set yourself up for a smooth recovery process. Implement the following tips before you receive plastic surgery:
- Schedule. As plastic surgery is elective, you have the opportunity to schedule it during a period of good health. The reason behind that is it will give your immune system the best possible chance to recover quickly.
- Prepare. Fill your prescriptions, schedule child/pet care, and stock your kitchen with healthy food. Create a space for you to recover in your bedroom and living room.
- Hydrate. It’s important to drink plenty of water before your surgery. However, unless otherwise directed by your surgeon, you should stop drinking water after midnight the night before your surgery.
- Care giver. Select someone to be your care giver post-op. You will need someone to drive you home and take care of you after the surgery. They can help you with household chores and be a source of comfort.
- Protein. Increase the amount of protein you are consuming. The extra intake will help your body repair post-op and build new tissue.
- No aspirin. Stop using aspirin two weeks before your surgery. Its blood thinning properties can increase the risk of bleeding during your surgery.
- No smoking. You need to stop smoking at least two weeks before your surgery. It increases the risk of complications during surgery and negatively impacts recovery.
- Small projects. It is highly likely that during your recovery process you will feel cooped up. Instead of dwelling on the fact that you can’t push yourself to do your day-to-day activities, focus on small projects that you’ve been putting off. This could be anything from filling up a photo album to organizing your junk drawer.
