UNDERSTANDING THE RIGHT TECHNIQUE FOR THE RIGHT NOSE

There is more to achieving your perfect nose than meets the eye. There is the consultation process, designing a customized treatment plan, and determining the best course of action. At Northeastern Plastic Surgery, our talented surgeon has been making ideal noses a reality for generations of men and women, using both the open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty techniques. So which technique is right for you?

Rhinoplasty specialist Joseph P. Fodero, M.D. has extensive experience performing both open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Anyone who is seeking their ideal nose in New Jersey can feel safe in the hands of our trusted surgeon, who will work with you during your consultation to determine whether a nose job is right for you.

  • Open Rhinoplasty
  • Closed Rhinoplasty

OPEN RHINOPLASTY

Dr. Fodero tends to favor open rhinoplasty for the majority of his New Jersey cases, especially when complex tip work is required. This technique gives our skilled surgeon the best view of the nasal structures. It similarly allows him the best access to the bone and cartilage underlying the nose. In effect, the open surgery technique is ideal for performing a wide variety of corrections, such as the repositioning or reshaping of the nose.

Open rhinoplasty, the most common procedure Dr. Fodero performs, begins with a small incision across the columella (the flap of skin between the nostrils). He then lifts the skin off the tip of the nose and proceeds with the alterations. After surgery and once healing is complete, a barely noticeable scar will remain on the underside of the nose.

The doctor will gladly provide more information on open rhinoplasty during your consultation at our Florham Park, New Jersey practice.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

For more straightforward cases, especially with noses that call for minimal tip work, our surgeon usually favors closed rhinoplasty. This technique eliminates the chance of external scarring, because the incisions are made inside of the nose.

Closed rhinoplasty is preferred when a patient simply wants to have a bump removed, desires only extremely minor changes, or calls for no reshaping of the tip of the nose. While the procedure limits Dr. Fodero’s access to and view of the nasal structures more than open rhinoplasty, it does allow for bone or cartilage to be removed or transplanted from other areas.

Dr. Fodero can discuss closed rhinoplasty with you in detail at our New Jersey practice in Florham Park.
