Solutions for Your Hair Loss

If you’ve found yourself experiencing unwanted hair loss as you get older, you’re in good company. For many men and women, thinning hair and receding hairlines are an unwelcome and even distressing part of the aging process.

Hair loss usually isn’t preventable, but thanks to advanced treatments offered by hair restoration specialist Joseph Fodero, MD, PA, it’s now possible to reverse the effects. Dr. Fodero, from Northeastern Plastic Surgery in Florham Park, New Jersey, explains the solutions available if you’re experiencing hair loss.

Understanding hair loss

Most people who experience hair loss have androgenic alopecia, a usually genetic condition that predisposes you toward losing hair. You can also develop androgenic alopecia as a side effect of cancer treatment, some autoimmune diseases, and changes to your hormonal balance.

Androgenic alopecia occurs differently in men and women. Men most noticeably tend to develop bald patches and have their hairline recede. They can also experience a thinning hairline.

Female hair loss is also common and usually occurs through thinning hair and a widening hair part. You might also notice a receding hairline.

Treatment options for your hair loss

Dr. Fodero offers a number of state-of-the-art, non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments that reverse or dramatically minimize your hair loss. These include Neograft® hair transplants, light therapy, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) procedures.

Neograft hair transplant

Using advanced hair transplant technology, Neograft technology can restore your previously lost hair. With follicular-unit extraction (FUE) techniques, Neograft takes hair from a portion of your scalp with healthy hair growth and transplants it to areas where you’ve had hair loss occur.

To perform this treatment, Dr. Fodero first consults with you and carefully identifies where your hair follicles will be transplanted. During the Neograft procedure, Dr. Fodero works with a Neograft trained technician and carefully explains to the technician where to place your hair.

Neograft hair transplant takes place under a local anesthetic and offers minimal discomfort and a quick recovery time. You’ll notice results, which can last for a lifetime, within four months.

Light therapy

Low-level light therapy uses light energy to encourage the growth of your hair. Receiving the low-level light therapy stimulates your hair follicles, reviving inactive ones to grow hair.

Light therapy is a noninvasive therapy for hair regrowth. After a series of treatments, you’ll receive the full benefits by targeting all of your inactive hair follicles.

PRP injections

PRP injections encourage your hair to naturally regrow by introducing proteins and growth factors into your scalp. These not only encourage your hair to restart growth, they can also make your hair strands stronger and thicker.

To give you the injections, Dr. Fodero first takes a sample of your own blood, then he mixes it in a centrifuge to create a platelet-rich mixture. Once the serum is ready, he injects it into your scalp to stimulate hair regrowth.

Exosome Therapy

Exosomes, which are extracellular vesicles produced by mesenchymal stem cells, regenerate and regrow hair. Dr. Fodero treats your hair loss with exosomes by injecting them into your scalp.

To do this procedure, Dr. Fodero first uses local anesthesia in the injection area to ensure you don’t feel any pain. Then, he defrosts the exosomes before injecting them into your scalp. Finally, Dr. Fodero does a small amount of microneedling to promote the regeneration of your follicles and assist with new hair growth.

Viviscal Vitamins, shampoo, and conditioner

Viviscal Vitamins help nourish your hair from the inside, by strengthening your hair strands, decreasing breakage, and making your hair appear stronger and healthier. To get the best results from this treatment, Dr. Fodero recommends you take the vitamins at daily for at least three months.

Viviscal shampoo and conditioner blend the powerful ingredients Biotin, Collagen and Keratin to help your hair look thicker, fuller, and healthier. Dr. Fodero also recommends using the shampoo and conditioner for three months to see results.

To get the most hair improvement from these products, Dr. Fodero recommends using Viviscal Vitamins, shampoo, and conditioner together for three months.
