EYELID SURGERY VS. BROW LIFT: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Eyelid Surgery vs. Brow Lift: Which is Right for You?

If your goal is to have brighter, younger-looking eyes, then you have a number of surgical options available to you. Two of the most popular surgeries to enhance the eyes and the area around the eyes, are eyelid surgery and a brow lift. Both procedures can give you a more refreshed, youthful appearance, but deciding on which procedure is right for you depends on the specific results you’re looking to achieve.

As board-certified plastic surgeons, we can educate you about each type of surgery and help you determine which one will get you the desired outcomes.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is specifically designed to correct both upper and lower eyelids that can often sag and become puffy as we age.

Droopy upper-eyelids can interfere with vision and make a person look older than they are. In more extreme cases, the eyelids can droop so low that it’s hard for a person to completely open their eyes. Lower eyelids are prone to developing dark-circles or bags that can make anyone look exhausted, even if they’ve had a full night’s rest.

Eyelid surgery is a same-day, outpatient procedure that removes excess tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids, reduces puffiness under the eyes, and diminishes dark circles for an overall more youthful, refreshed, and alert appearance. In addition, patients whose vision was blocked by their eyelids prior to surgery can expect to open their eyes more easily and have unobstructed vision after they are completely healed.

Note that eyelid surgery will not remove wrinkles around the eyes or “crow’s feet.” Nor will it correct any true vision problems or disorders of the eye.

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then eyelid surgery might be the best choice for you.

What is a Brow Lift?

Like eyelid surgery, a brow or forehead lift can subtract years from a person’s facial appearance. But unlike eyelid surgery, the focus of the brow lift is the area of the face above the eyes, specifically around the eyebrows and forehead.

During this same-day outpatient procedure, your surgeon removes excess skin from the forehead and repositions muscles and tissue under the brow to eliminate wrinkles and deep furrows, soften a heavy brow, and restore a smoother, more youthful appearance to that area of the face.
