COSMETIC SURGERY: MEN VS. WOMEN

What Are The Differences In The Reasoning for Plastic Surgery Between Men and Women?

In general, it is no big shock or surprise that there are a huge number of differences between men and women. From clothing preferences, to food, to movies, to television shows, to furniture placement- the list can go on and on. Due to the fact that there are so many differences, it should come as no revelation that there are differences in the reasons why men and women consider and undergo plastic surgery. However, in some cases, those from ‘Venus’ and those from ‘Mars’ are not necessarily that different.

In recent times, cosmetic surgery has become much more popular among men. The astonishment that many people have is the fact that men truly do care about their appearances. Studies have shown that the main motivation for the interest in plastic surgery from men is to better their appearance. While this may not sound different from a reason why a woman would undergo plastic surgery, the trend of men caring more and more about their appearance enough to have cosmetic surgery is a new one. Men have become more eager to look younger and more fit.

It is no great mystery as to why men would want to look younger or more fit. In many ways the reasons are the same that women would have- they want to feel more confident, they feel as though cosmetic surgery will make them look and feel better, or they feel as though altering their appearance through some procedure will perhaps advance them in their careers.

Women tend to pursue plastic surgery in order to be able to maintain their looks. While there are many other women who, like men, will have a procedure to advance their looks, the large majority will view plastic surgery as a way to be able to maintain their youth, attractiveness, and confidence through a Botox or facial procedures. Women tend to want to attract attention at first glance through their face which is why procedures such as a facelift or eye lifts have become a popular trend among women.

There are many other men and women who have an interest in plastic surgery for reconstructive purposes. In this case, their reasoning may be the same but their target areas are certainly different. Fate does not discriminate between those who have lost a large amount of weight or those who have been in a car accident and undergone extensive cosmetic injuries.
