DR. JOSEPH FODERO: Our consultations are free. What I’m looking for is I’m looking for someone to come in and get a sense of what we can do for them, and I want to get a sense of what they would like done. Typically what happens is that we would allot a good 30 to 45 minutes for each patient. I think it’s important to spend time with people, to talk to them about what their concerns are. Once I’ve had a chance to meet with them, discuss their concerns, and get a little bit of a history, I will examine them, and then at that point, I will tell them what I think I can do for them. I will go through the procedure in detail. We’ll go over the technique involved, and we’ll go over the recovery involved. We’ll talk about the risk associated with the surgery, and of course the recovery. My feeling is that the consultation is a free exchange of information. I don’t charge for my consultations for a reason. I want people to feel comfortable coming in with any question or concern, whether they’re thinking about having surgery next week or a year from now.
The goal of the consultation process is to give that patient peace of mind when they leave the office, so that they really understand what these operations or techniques can do, and so they can make an informed decision for themselves.
