DR. JOSEPH FODERO: A breast lift is a procedure that’s designed to correct breast sag. Women can have breast sag for a variety of reasons. They can have been born with a saggy breast, they could have had some sag that’s accumulated with weight loss or pregnancy, and what a breast lift does is it tightens the breast to create a more youthful, athletic-looking breast.
A breast lift typically takes an hour to three hours to perform in my center, and the big benefit is that the breast is restored to a more youthful, fuller shape. So women that have been plagued with breast sag, either from birth or as a result of weight loss or pregnancy, will have a nice firm, pretty, natural breast shape once again.
The mastopexy recovery is quite reasonable, and typically involves four or five off of work or being out of school. Essentially what mastopexy is is it’s a resetting of the breasts. So a woman comes in very concerned about having excessive sag in the breasts, and after the mastopexy the breasts are where they’re supposed to be. They’re firm, the nipple position has been restored to a more youthful, natural look, and they’re there forever.
