Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, or nose job surgery, can correct both the appearance and the overall function of the nose. Dr. Joseph Fodero is an expert rhinoplasty surgeon in New Jersey and typically performs two to four rhinoplasy procedures a week.

DR. JOSEPH FODERO: Rhinoplasty is really for anyone that is concerned about the appearance of their nose. It may be some subtle things that they don’t like, or maybe some dramatic things that they don’t like. It’s also for anyone that has difficulty breathing, because there are things that we can do to correct the appearance of the nose at the same time that we improve the overall function of the nose. Rhinoplasty can have a profound effect on a person by getting rid of that one thing that bothers them when they look in the mirror every day, and also by improving their airway. I typically perform two to four rhinoplasties a week, and on average I probably see about a dozen new patients that are interested in having some form of nasal reshaping every week. And people come in with a variety of complaints. Some of them can be very subtle, from a little bump. Some of them can be quite dramatic, such as a droopy tip or a crooked nose from trauma. So everybody has a different goal as to what they would like their nose to look like. So what we do here at Northeastern Plastic Surgery is we talk to them about what it is that they don’t like about their nose. I take their picture using a digital camera. We use morphing software to simulate what surgery could make their nose look like. And then using that software I’m able to get a sense as to what it is that they want. Is it technically possible? And then I will examine the inside of their nose, I will design that operation that day, and then I’ll go into detail as to how I would fix their nose. The surgery itself typically takes about two to two and a half hours to do, and we do that right here in our state-of-the-art facility at Northeastern Plastic Surgery. And the recovery is about a week. I recommend that most people take a week or a week and a half off of school or work.
