Rhinoplasty – Primary Revision Surgery

Making a change to one facial feature can greatly enhance all of your facial features. This is to be expected, actually. All facial features are connected and complementary, meaning that a change to one (even a subtle change) can lead to a major enhancement of all your other features. It takes real expertise to achieve such results, be we do achieve them routinely here at our New Jersey plastic surgery practice.

About Rhinoplasty Surgery

One particularly effective facial plastic surgery is rhinoplasty. Also known as a nose job, a rhinoplasty can alter the size, shape, and contour of the nose. Since the nose is so central to the appearance of the face, even a subtle alteration of the shape of the nose can have dramatic results. In some cases, rhinoplasty can be performed to adjust the nasal passages and improve the breathing of a patient who is suffering from a respiratory problem.

Risks of Rhinoplasty

While there are many benefits to rhinoplasty, there are also a number of risks of rhinoplasty to consider as well. Some of these include poor healing experience, pain, discomfort, excessive bleeding, and so forth. These can all be discussed in detail during your consultation.

Secondary or Revisional Rhinoplasty Surgery

In some cases, a corrective surgery will need to be performed after an initial rhinoplasty. The reasons for this are many, and we can discuss them in more detail during your New Jersey rhinoplasty consultation. For the time being, we’d like to look over the basics of corrective rhinoplasty surgery and what reasons it may be performed.

Poor Surgical Results on the First Surgery

One of the common reasons that people undergo a corrective or revision rhinoplasty is that they are not satisfied with the results. This may mean that the contouring or reshaping was not as effective as the patient wished, or there was some flaw in the surgical procedure that has led to less than desirable results. (Rest assured Florham Park plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fodero takes all precautions necessary to help ensure that no mistakes are made.)

Poor Healing or Recovery Experience

The nose is quite delicate after a rhinoplasty had been performed. For example, it is not a good idea for a patient to blow his or her nose for several weeks to a few months after surgery since it may affect the appearance of the nose. If something during the healing or recovery after surgery requires fixing, a revision surgery may be needed.

Injury of the Nose During Healing

Accidents can happen, which is another reason why we perform revisional or corrective rhinoplasty. Car accidents, accidental contact, or unforeseen events can lead to injury to the nose. Should such incidents occur, we can perform a second surgery so that the appearance of the nose is fixed.
