Insurance Coverage and Plastic Surgery Treatment
Plastic surgery procedures are considered elective medical treatments. Since aesthetic procedures typically are not performed to improve patients’ physical health, consumers must pay for each treatment out of their own pockets. Health insurance will not pay for any portion of plastic surgery procedures when they are performed solely for cosmetic purposes. However, if the procedure is performed to correct a medical problem, your health insurance company may pay for all of, or a portion of, your surgical procedure. New Jersey plastic surgeon Joseph Fodero has helped our patients obtain health insurance coverage for the following issues:
Overly Large, Heavy Breasts
Women that have large breasts often experience back and neck pain, and have difficulty playing certain sports. When overly large breasts interfere with women’s daily routines, they may be able to obtain insurance coverage for a breast reduction procedure. Breast reduction surgery can treat back and neck problems, allow women to enjoy physical activities, and improve the appearance.
In order to obtain coverage for breast reduction surgery, patients should provide their insurance company with any chiropractic, massage therapy, medication, or other medical bills that relate to the back and neck problems that are caused by large breasts.
Drooping Upper Eyelid Skin
As a person ages, the skin on the upper eyelid begins to sag. For some patients, the eyelid skin can hang down so low that it obstructs vision. These patients may be able to obtain insurance coverage for upper blepharoplasty, a procedure in which the surgeon tightens eyelid skin to produce clear vision and rejuvenate the patient’s appearance.
Patients should provide their insurance companies with upper eyelid surgery recommendations from their eye doctor, primary care physician, and plastic surgeon.
Nasal Passage Obstructions
Some patients are born with nasal obstructions that cause breathing problems, while others develop them as a result of injury. New Jersey rhinoplasty surgeon Joseph Fodero can perform nose surgery to open up the nasal passage and allow patients to breathe easier.
In order to obtain coverage for rhinoplasty, patients should provide their insurance company with nose surgery recommendations from their otolaryngologist, primary care physician, and plastic surgeon.
