JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is an exciting new dermal filler used at our Florham Park, New Jersey practice to restore volume and the appearance of fullness to the skin. Dr. Fodero offers two distinct formulations of JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel at his New Jersey practice: JUVÉDERM™ Ultra and JUVÉDERM™ Ultra Plus. The first is used primarily for areas of the face that need a subtle improvement in volume, whereas the latter is typically used for correcting deeper facial folds and wrinkles. The effects of JUVÉDERM™ Ultra Plus last about three months longer than those of JUVÉDERM™ Ultra, and the treatment costs slightly more per session.

The JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel treatment is relatively quick and simple. Dr. Fodero injects the JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel into the layers of skin that lie just beneath the epidermis, or surface layer of skin. Because JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is a smooth filler and not granular like other dermal fillers, the substance injects easily into the skin.

Some patients may experience minor side effects, including redness, tenderness around the injection area, and minor bruising or swelling. Any side effects should subside within a few days. With JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel, patients experience no downtime after the treatment and can return immediately to their everyday activities.

ArteFill®

ArteFill®, available at our Florham Park, New Jersey office, is a safe, effective dermal filler. Also referred to as Artecoll®, ArteFill® can fill in and smooth away the deep winkles, facial lines (such as marionette lines and nasolabial creases), and folds in facial skin that develop as a result of time and age. In some cases, ArteFill® can even be used to fill in facial scars.

One of the most unique traits of ArteFill® is its composition. Eighty percent of ArteFill® consists of purified bovine collagen gel; the other 20 percent is composed of PMMA, or microscopic beads made of synthetic polymer. Unlike other dermal filler products, the results of ArteFill® are relatively permanent, as it is not reabsorbed by the body. A skin test is typically required before the treatment, as some patients can be allergic to the purified bovine collagen found in ArteFill®.

Most patients who undergo the ArteFill® treatment usually find that only one or two sessions are necessary to achieve the results they desire, while some patients may find that a third, "touch-up " session is needed. As with any other injectable dermal filler treatment, patients may experience minor side effects following the session, including bruising, tenderness, and redness.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are an excellent way to improve the appearance of wrinkles, lines, creases, and crow's feet. Unlike JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel and ArteFill®, BOTOX® Cosmetic does not act as a dermal filler; rather, it uses a safe, purified derivation of botulinum toxin type A to relax the underlying muscles. By temporarily paralyzing these muscles, BOTOX® Cosmetic can diminish the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

The BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment, performed at our Florham Park, New Jersey office, is harmless and relatively painless. Patients typically notice their full results two to three days after the session.
