Breast Augmentation Recovery

It is important to note that breast augmentation is an invasive procedure, and the recovery process will require time. In the initial 24 to 48 hour period after the procedure, the breasts will likely be very sore and the patient may feel very tired. We can help minimize discomfort and pain with prescription medications, but the patient will still require one to two days of bed rest to help alleviate pain and soreness, and to promote the healing process. Several days after surgery, the gauze dressings will be removed from the breasts and replaced with a surgical bra. Roughly one week to a week and a half after surgery, any stitches that may have been required for surgery will also be removed.

The breast augmentation recovery process will continue for several weeks after surgery. The breasts may remain sensitive and swollen for as long as four to five weeks, during which time you should avoid physical contact to the breasts. Additionally, strenuous activity such as exercise as well as sexual activity should be avoided for at least one month after surgery to allow the breasts to adequately heal. If a strict recovery process is not adhered to, it can delay healing as well as cause injury or complications.
