Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone breast implants are FDA approved, and have been shown to be safe and effective. Renowned for their natural look and feel, silicone breast implants are a great option if you are interested in accenting your bust line with breast implants but would like to maintain a natural appearance. Constructed from a silicone casing and filled with silicone gel, these implants have a firmer texture than that of saline implants, and more closely mimic the feel of natural breast tissue. With sub-muscular implant placement, silicone implants are nearly undetectable, and the implants are less likely to ripple beneath the breast tissue. For these reasons, many women prefer silicone breast implants to saline breast implants.
Though there are numerous breast augmentation benefits, it is important to note the risks of breast augmentation so that you can make an informed decision regarding your treatment. Silicone breast implants are more likely to suffer capsular contracture – the compression and hardening of the breast implant as a result of scar tissue – than saline implants, and can cause health complications in the event of a rupture. Though ruptures are extremely rare thanks to the improved construction of modern silicone implants, it is still possible, and in such cases, the rupture is far less likely to be detected.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants utilize a benign solution that can be harmlessly absorbed into the body, making them the safest choice for women seeking breast augmentation. Individuals who are concerned with safety or the potential risks of silicone implants often find that saline breast implants alleviate their concerns while still meeting their needs. Saline implants are not only harmless in the event of a rupture, but ruptures are evident almost immediately. Unlike silicone implants which leak slowly and maintain their shape, saline implants quickly deflate, allowing the patient to seek treatment in a timely manner. If considering breast augmentation cost, saline breast implants are also typically more affordable than silicone alternatives. The many benefits of saline breast implants make them a great choice for women looking to revitalize their appearance and enhance their natural bust line.
We are proud to offer saline breast implants at our New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice, but saline implants are not for everyone. Because saline implants are filled with a liquid solution rather than a gel solution, they are more likely to ripple beneath the skin. Additionally, saline implants typically do not feel or look as natural as silicone implants. For these reasons, saline implants may not be the best option for thin women, women with minimal breast tissue, or women undergoing breast reconstruction surgery.
