Tummy Tuck FAQs Florham Park
Answers to Commonly Asked Questions about Abdominoplasty
At Northeastern Plastic Surgery, we receive many questions regarding abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. We have compiled answers to some of the most commonly asked questions below. If you have further questions after reading this tummy tuck FAQ, please contact our New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice to schedule an appointment with Dr. Joseph Fodero.
What is abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and fat tissue are removed from the abdominal area. The abdominal muscles are tightened, providing a trimmer, fitter look. Often, stretch marks and other skin imperfections can be removed during this procedure.
Who gets tummy tuck?
The best tummy tuck candidates are healthy people with excess skin or a protruding belly that is resistant to dieting or exercise. Often, candidates were recently pregnant or have lost a lot of weight. People considering tummy tuck should have realistic expectations about what this procedure can do for them.
Is anesthesia used during tummy tuck?
General anesthesia is typically used during tummy tuck surgery. Dr. Fodero can discuss what that entails with you prior to the surgery.
Are there scars from tummy tuck surgery?
Tummy tuck does require some incisions that cause some scarring. Dr. Fodero is careful to place incisions along the bikini line in order to make scarring as discreet and easy to hide as possible.
When will I be able to return to work?
This will depend on how strenuous your job is. Most of our patients are able to return to work after a two-week tummy tuck recovery period. If your work requires a lot of physical activity, it may be more than four weeks before you can expect to return.
How long can I expect the results to last?
With proper diet and exercise, you can enjoy the results of your tummy tuck for years to come. This is one of the longer-lasting cosmetic procedures, and most of our patients are very satisfied with their results. Getting pregnant after tummy tuck surgery can limit its longevity.
