A facelift, medically referred to as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic treatment that is used to improve the appearance of the facial skin. A facelift can help to reduce or remove the appearance of lines, wrinkles, creases, and sagging jowls. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about facelift.

Who is a good candidate for a facelift procedure?

The ideal candidate for a facelift procedure is someone with skin that has retained some of its natural elasticity and suppleness. The patient must be in generally good health, with no severe medical conditions that can cause complications during or after surgery.

Can I get liposuction with a facelift procedure?

Liposuction is often used in conjunction with a facelift to help remove stubborn fatty deposits from beneath the skin.

How long is the recovery from a facelift?

Recovery times will vary depending on a number of factors including the extent of the cosmetic treatment you received and your own personal healing abilities. Immediately following surgery you can expect to experience swelling, possible bruising, and mild discomfort or numbness. Generally, these effects will fade away in about three weeks. Your doctor will likely instruct you to refrain from work and strenuous activity for about two weeks, at which time you will be able to return to your normal activities.

Will my incision scars be visible after my facelift surgery?

The incisions made to complete your facelift should be extremely fine and small, and placed in inconspicuous locations along the hairline. Providing you follow the post-operative instructions provided by your cosmetic surgeon completely when caring for your incision sites, the incisions should heal cleanly within a few weeks and barely be visible.

Are the results of a facelift permanent?

For the most part, a facelift is a permanent cosmetic surgery procedure. However, as you age you will eventually begin to once again show signs of aging. To slow this process and help keep your skin youthful looking, practice a good skin care regimen after your surgery and the results can practically last a lifetime.
