Why Do Surgeons Prefer Ultrasonic and Power Assisted Liposuction?

When it comes to sculpting the body and enhancing the overall body contour, one of the best options out there is liposuction. The thing about liposuction is that it may involve more than just a cannula extracting fat. There are different kinds of liposuction techniques that are out there, and we’re happy to offer both ultrasonic liposuction (UAL) and power assisted liposuction (PAL) at our New Jersey plastic surgery office. Dr. Joseph Fodero and his team would like to cover some of the unique benefits of these liposuction techniques with you right now.

It’s maybe best to show you just how ultrasonic liposuction and power assisted liposuction work. Ultrasonic liposuction involves the use of a cannula with an ultrasonic tip. This cannula emits a special high-energy vibration that helps break up the pockets of fat before they are extracted. The power assisted liposuction method also involves the use of a vibrating cannula to help break up the fat.

So why is that that power assisted liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction are so popular with plastic surgeons? For one, both of these New Jersey liposuction techniques provide plastic surgeons with great versatility when it comes to performing body contouring. Since the fat is liquefied by the vibrations and made easier to extract, it makes work for the surgeon much more precise. This is of particular importance in delicate or sensitive parts of the body.

In addition to the ease and precision for the surgeon, these vibration-based liposuction methods also reduce the chances of complicates following surgery and reduce the possibility of lumpiness or unevenness while doing body sculpting. Patients who have undergone power assisted liposuction or ultrasonic liposuction generally report less discomfort, swelling, and bruising as they go through the surgical recovery period.

Breast Implant Risks and Side Effects

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular plastic surgery treatments that is offered to patients today. It’s generally safe, effective, and a sure way to enhance those curves. But, as with any surgery (whether elective or medically necessary, we should add), breast augmentation is not without risks. Indeed, some patients may have complications after surgery, which is why it’s important to speak with us should you experience any problems following surgery. New Jersey cosmetic surgeon Joseph Fodero and his staff will be here to help you, providing you with the necessary support during the trying period and supplying you with useful information.

While we don’t have the space to cover all of the possible complications and risks that come with a breast augmentation surgery, we will outline a few common risks to keep in mind. We’ll be happy to discuss all of the risks as well as the benefits of breast enlargement surgery during a consultation at the practice.

One of the risks that you should note after getting breast implants is breast implant leakage or rupture. This can occur following any sort of major injury to the chest area, including a hard fall where you land chest first, blunt force trauma to the chest, or any puncture wounds to the chest. You will notice implant rupture if you breast size changes following an accident. Be sure to contact our practice right away so this issue can be addressed inn a timely manner.

Following New Jersey breast augmentation surgery, you should also be on the lookout for capsular contracture. Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue following breast augmentation surgery contracts and places pressure on the breast implant. This can lead to pain and discomfort, and it will also alter the shape of the affected breast. Surgery may or may not be necessary to correct the issue. Regardless, it should be brought to our attention for care.

Another possible risk to keep in mind is change in nipple sensitivity. Some women experience reduced nipple sensitivity following breast augmentation surgery while other report heightened nipple sensitivity.

Finally, an important consideration for women getting breast implants is that breast implants will affect mammograms. Whether you get saline breast implants or silicone breast implants, both will potentially interfere with x-rays checking breast tissue. It’s important that you speak with you physician about finding x-ray technicians who have experience conducting mammograms on women with breast implants.

We’ve only covered a few basics here, so we encourage you to contact New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fodero for more information. We’re here to help you.

Breast Lift Techniques

One of the best ways to improve your body contour and enhance your appearance is to undergo a breast lift. Breast lift surgery can improve the perkiness, firmness, and contour of the breasts. This is a particularly important consideration if you have breasts that droop or sag due to pregnancy, age, or major weight loss. New Jersey plastic surgeon Joseph Fodero has helped many patients achieve a more appealing shape through breast lift surgery.

Now, each patient’s needs are going to be different, which is why the breast lift surgery can be performed in different ways. By that we don’t just mean combining the breast lift surgery with breast augmentation and breast implants. There are multiple incision methods for breast lift surgery that you may be eligible for. Some of these incision methods will involve less visible scarring and excellent results. Let’s look at the various New Jersey breast lift techniques that we may use.

The first technique to discuss is the traditional incision method, commonly referred to as the anchor incision method. This involves an incision made along the crease under the breast, and incision made around the areola, and an incision that connects these two along the lower center portion of the breast. This technique is commonly used in combined breast lift/breast reduction surgeries.

The next technique to discuss is the so-called lollipop incision or keyhole incision. This is line the anchor incision method but without the incision along the underside crease of the breast. This is an ideal incision method for women who are only experiencing moderately drooping breasts.

Another incision method that may be on the table is the donut incision method. In this breast lift technique, there is only an incision made around the areola. That’s it. If you have just minor sagging of the breasts, this is an ideal method. It’s also one way that the breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation surgery. A variation of this technique exists called the crescent incision, which involves an incision just along the upper portion of the areola. This is used for very minor sagging and can also be combined with breast implants.

If you would like to find out which breast lift technique is best for you and your needs, be sure to contact Florham Park, NJ plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fodero to schedule a consultation.

Mini Tummy Tuck vs. Traditional Tummy Tuck

When you have drooping or sagging in the abdominal area, it’s important that you consider your options for slimming your mid-section and looking trim again. The thing is, exercise and diet won’t be able to take care of this issue. You’re dealing with skin elasticity rather than excess fat, and the only way to reduce the appearance of excess skin is undergoing surgery. Don’t worry, though. For excess skin in the belly, the tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is extremely effective.

The team here at our New Jersey cosmetic surgery center has performed numerous tummy tucks patients over the years, tailoring the procedures to meet their needs. Since the amount of excess skin that a patient needs removed will vary, we can adjust the tummy tuck surgery to take care of those needs.

That’s right, there’s not just one kind of New Jersey tummy tuck. You can undergo a mini tummy tuck or a traditional tummy tuck.

Traditional Tummy Tuck

To describe how each of these works, it’s best to first describe the traditional tummy tuck. During a traditional tummy tuck, an incision is made that leads from one hipbone to the other along the contour of the lower abdomen. Another incision is made around the navel, and a final incision is made that connects these two incisions. Many have compared these incisions to an anchor shape, which is a pretty good way to put it. It’s through these incisions that the plastic surgeon will remove excess skin and tissue.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck involves fewer and smaller incisions. Rather than the anchor-shaped incisions, a mini tummy tuck only involves one incision that is made along part of the lower abdomen. This incision doesn’t have to extend from hipbone to hipbone either. In some cases, the incision may just be a few inches along the lower abdomen.

To find out whether a traditional tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck is right for you, contact the practice of New Jersey plastic surgeon Joseph Fodero today. We’ll be able to evaluate your situation and help you make the best decision for your body contouring needs.

How to Make Abdominoplasty Recovery as Comfortable as Possible

If you have lost a lot of weight, you’ve probably noticed major changes to you body. That doesn’t mean you’ll be trim and slim automatically, however. In fact, you may notice quite a bit of loose skin. This is normal given the nature of skin laxity. Once it’s stretched out a good deal, it doesn’t shrink back all the way. With that in mind, however, tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) can remove this excess skin and provide you with a much more slim and attractive body contour.

At our New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice, we’ve performed quite a number of tummy tucks. In fact, tummy tuck surgery was one of the most popular plastic surgeries performed last year. The surgery is rather major, which means that actions you take while recovering from surgery are just as important as the actions we take when we’re performing the surgery. We’d like to provide you with some brief tips on how to make your tummy tuck as comfortable as possible.

First of all, you don’t need to wait for pain or discomfort to take the pain medication you’re given after surgery. Don’t overdo the dosage, but don’t feel discouraged to take your pain medication in those first few days after surgery.

You’ll likely be given some antibiotics for your recovery period New Jersey tummy tuck surgery. Be sure to take this medication on time as instructed in order to prevent complications and infections. It’s a good idea to monitor your temperature regularly. Doing so will help you find out if there is an infection.

Before getting the tummy tuck, it’s a good idea to buy underwear and pants that a few sizes larger than you usually wear. Since the surgical scar is along the underside of the abdomen, it’s easy to feel uncomfortable or irritated if you’re wearing clothes that are tight.

Light exercise is recommended to keep the blood flowing after surgery, so it’s a good idea to go for some casual walks when you are able. Again, no need to strain yourself, but take it easy and get some fresh air.

There’s more to keep in mind when it comes to tummy tuck recovery, and we’d be happy to talk to you about it in more detail. For more information, be sure to contact Florham Park, New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fodero today.

Anti-aging Facial Treatments

At our New Jersey plastic surgeryoffice in Florham Park, Dr. Joseph Fodero has been able to improve the appearances of numerous patients who have wanted to achieve a youthful and more vibrant appearance. Below are some of the most popular treatment options available for reducing wrinkles and improving the overall appearance of your face.

Non-Surgical Solutions

It might be best to first mention two of the most popular non-surgical treatments for anti-aging: chemical peels and microdermabrasion. The look and feel of your skin goes a long way to conveying a sense of youth, and both chemical peels and microdermabrasion can improve the overall quality of the skin.

The Facelift

Facial wrinkles are a major issue when it comes to looking young and energetic. For that, there is always the perennial favorite: the facelift. A New Jersey facelift will target the middle area of the face, removing those pesky wrinkles by tightening your facial skin. There are other facial lifts available too. The brow lift will best address issues with forehead furrows and deep lines, for instance, and the neck lift and lower facelift will best address neck skin and the jowls.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are a major factor when it comes to looking your youngest. In order to address the upper eyelids and the lower eyelids, there are different cosmetic eyelid surgeries to consider. Eyelid surgery will reduce the sagging and drooping skin and make you look years younger and much livelier than prior to surgery.

Since there are so many options for enhancing your facial appearance out there, we couldn’t cover all of them here, and the ones covered here we were only able to mention in brief detail. With that in mind, we encourage you to visit our office so you can discuss all of these treatments in greater depth. How to Rejuvenate the Eyes and Neck

If you want to look your best and feel great about how you look, it’s important to consider ways of rejuvenating your eyes and your neck. It sounds sort of strange, maybe, but it’s true. Both the eyes and the neck can communicate a lot about your age and your energy level. New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fodero has helped numerous patients enhance their appearance a great deal just by addressing issues with the eyes and the neck. Let’s look at a few options to consider.

There are plenty of non-surgical options that you should keep in mind that can reduce wrinkles and make the skin of the face look healthier and more appealing. Microdermabrasion and various skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments can shed years from your age, for instance.

For the eye area, it’s important that you keep New Jersey eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) in mind. The upper eyelids can droop or sag a great deal, sometimes so much that it impairs your vision on top of making you look exhausted and much older than you may be. Cosmetic eyelid surgery for the upper eyelid will remove that excess skin and improve your overall appearance. A traditional facelift can also help the eye area, tightening the skin in the mid-face region to reduce the appearance of wrinkles at the corners of the eyes. Surgery or non-surgical treatments can also be performed to address the lower eyelids and bags under the eyes.

As for the neck, one of the best options out there is neck lift surgery. If you lose a good amount of weight or if you’re just getting older, you may notice some loose skin in the neck. A neck lift will remove that excess skin and improve the contour of your neckline. Or perhaps you have a double chin or a little excess fat. In that case, a little liposuction will helpful, removing that pocket of fat and making a dramatic impact on your overall appearance.
